Whiplash

Andrew is a first year music student at a prestigious New York conservatory. His dream is to become a great jazz drummer, and it looks like this might come true when he is chosen for the school's top band. But the teacher in charge of the band is a terrifying, sadistic prefectionist. He mentally and physicaly tortures his students to try to make them surpass their limitations. Soon, Andrew and the teacher are locked in a tense fight for supremacy. Whiplash is a great film about music and the dedication that excellence demands, but it also asks difficult questions about the role and duty of a teacher.
